When I moved out, I bought a pepper mill, a nice one, for special occasions. It took me many years before I pulled it out of the cabinet above the stove as well as started to grind my own black pepper while cooking.

If you're scared of the old sneeze element, there are products on the market that boast to be "sneezeless", but I find the best solution is to keep my personal sniffer out of the way. It's not a real big deal.
When it comes to pepper, it's all about the flavor. And fewer is more, depending on the variety. I prefer a combined variety of pepper ground together. My omelets come out rich and speckled, so my mashed potatoes. Even carrots take advantage of a turn or even two of the wheel. Okay, sometimes three.
